Out with the Old...

2009 has come and gone. I'm not typically a sentimental person, by any means, but today I'm feeling differently. I've been meaning to toss out my 2009 desk calendar since my first day back to the office this year, but something's kept me holding onto it for 8 additional days. And just so you know - 8 days is a long time for me. :)

So, this morning I took hold of 2009, flipped through the events of this past year, gave it one last loving look, and tossed it out. As I reminded myself of all 2009 had to offer, I felt a slight bit of sentiment rising. There was no shortage of good times and happy memories, that's for sure. As I flipped, I saw birthdays, Bible studies, family events, parties, weddings, deadlines, etc. What a year 2009 was!

After reading Caroline's blog describing the many big events to take place in her year, I quietly counted my own events - coming to the realization that nothing much happened this year for me. But now, as I look back through each day, week, and month, I realize this is not true. No, Patrick and I did not experience life-changing events; however, we did enjoy being a part of others' big events... making 2009 a terrific year after all!

I think 2009 will remain as the quiet, peaceful, steadfast year in my mind. Our marriage was wonderful. Our faith grew day by day. Our days predictable, pleasant... uncomplicated. Our nights were bundled up on the couch, enjoying love and laughter. Our home was created. Our love was strengthened. What more can you ask for?

The Lord has blessed us beyond measure this year. Just His consistence presence in our daily lives has been a gentle stream of comfort. No stress. No worries. Just good 'ol fashioned sameness - love for each other and our Heavenly Father. Truly a breath of fresh air of a year.

Thank you, Lord for 2009. May 2010 be as peaceful and steadfast. Happy New Year to all!

With this I leave 2009 behind and welcome the beginning to a new year...
